CRUISE
Video Performance
A performance of “CRUISE” by Claire Skinner
So how was the cruise, people will say
It's meant to be a nice holiday
Holidays with MND are not much fun
So l will tell you where it begun
Flight seats are allocated, 2 C&D
Wait what, Steve is not next to me
Across the aisle seems so far away
Especially when your hands don't want to play
We sit on the plane, 2 hour delay
Not the best start to our holiday
Captain says Airbus can be a bit glitchy
Doesn't help my nerves, and I'm feeling twichy
Disembarking in a wheelchair is never fun
But finally we have our face in the Sun
Pina Colada and a pint of beer
The holiday is finally here
Next day at sea and the water is rough
This is when things start to get tough
It's Gala dinner, a fancy affair
But l'm feeling conscious of people who stare
My neck is starting to hurt quite a bit
It seems to get worse the longer I sit
We go to a show and I start to cry
I miss performing and think why oh why
After a day at sea, we wake up in port
We mooch around Corsica, but mood was fraught
The cobbly pavements gave my neck grief
I brought a new neck brace, which was a relief
Let's talk about cabins, the accessible kind
The bed was too high, which we were surprised to find
Steve was my hero and lifted me on
Despite the fact his own back was gone
We venture ashore on the next day
But the pain in my neck got in the way
So back in our room, with some morphine for me
But it binds me up, which is not pleasant to see
Steve tries to help me the best that he can
He really is an incredible man
I know how much it hurts for him
Watching me suffer, its just grim
Not every moment was so bad
We had a nice meal in Naples, for which I am glad
Of course the streets are full of bumps
Every one makes my neck jump
Back in the cabin, I'm laying in bed
And hope to relieve the pain in my head
Tomorrow is a day at sea
A day closer to home for me
Go on a cruise, you'll love it they say
I didn't with MND in the way
If I was well, it may appeal more
But never again, that is for sure
